Angela Moran, MS - Occupational Therapy

Occupational Therapist

Ms. Moran is the Occupational Therapist for Montcalm Schools.  She celebrated her 1 year anniversary at Starr Commonwealth in April 2010.  She has a Master of Science and Bachelor of Science both from Western Michigan University.  Her role in Montcalm Schools is to provide evaluation and intervention for students with developmental and learning disabilities as well as psychosocial issues.  Treatment plans are geared toward fine motor and gross motor skills, visual perception and social skills with an emphasis on sensory integration.  She believes that all students are individually unique with many strengths and has the ability to succeed in social and academic settings.  Her main goal is to provide client centered treatment of individual goals to ensure success in their daily performance.  Ms. Moran may be reached directly at 517.630.2484 or by e-mail at morana@starr.org.


Dana Richards, MA, LLP

Senior Residential Family Specialist, Outside In 

Mr. Richards is a Senior Residential Family Specialist for Montcalm's Outside In program that focuses on students diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorders or other social challenges.  His main responsibilities include developing the treatment direction for each student and providing leadership to the treatment team.  Mr. Richards began at Starr Commonwealth in January 1993 as a Youth Specialist and in 1995 was promoted to the role of Senior Clinician with the Sexually Reactive Youth (SRY) program.  After seven years of helping establish the SRY program, he took a leading role in the development of Montcalm Schools where he has been a Senior Residential Family Specialist since its inception in 2000.  Mr. Richards has presented at several national conferences on topics including Asperger's Syndrome, assessment of youth, treatment techniques and teamwork.  He received his Bachelor of Science degree in Criminal Justice and his Master's degree in Counseling Psychology, both from Western Michigan University and is licensed with the State of Michigan as a Limited Licensed Psychologist.  Mr. Richards has also co-authored an article entitled "From the Outside In: Meeting the Needs of Children with Autistic Spectrum Disorders."  He and his wife life in Eaton Rapids and enjoy spending time with their two sons and daughter.  Mr. Richards may be reached at 800.837.5591, ext. 2551 or richardsd@starr.org.



Sarah Slamer, BA, CTS

Senior Residential Family Specialist, Reynolds Cottage

Ms. Slamer is the Senior Residential Family Specialist for Reynolds Cottage.  She provides treatment direction for her students, leadership for the treatment team, runs group meetings and works with the families of her students.  She received her Bachelors degree in Psychology from Albion College and is currently pursuing her Master's degree in Counseling from Western Michigan University.  Ms. Slamer has been in her current position since April 2009, she began her career with Starr Commonwealth in 2007 as a Youth Specialist and a Student Services Coordinator for Montcalm's Outside In program.  She may be reached directly at 800.837.5591, ext. 2567 or at slamers@starr.org.



Mark Cavender, MA, LLPC

Senior Residential Family Specialist, Structured Transitional Living (STL) 

Mr. Cavender is a Senior Residential Family Specialist for the Crossroads, Structured Transitional Living program with Montcalm Schools.  Mr. Cavender has worked at Starr Commonwealth since 1996, beginning as a Family Service Counselor, a position he maintained for nine years.  In 2006, he accepted a position in the Foster Care program in Starr Battle Creek as a Foster Care Counselor.  Mr. Cavender was promoted and worked as the Foster Care Licensing Specialist for one year before accepting his current position with Montcalm Schools.  Prior to his employment with Starr, Mr. Cavender was a Juvenile Probation Officer for Branch County Probate Court from 1989 to 1996.  He also worked at the Manor Foundation as a Residential Counselor for three years.  Mr. Cavender began his professional career after earning his Bachelor of Arts degree from Michigan State University and earned his Master of Arts degree from Siena Heights University in 2000.  He may be reached directly at 800.837.5591, ext. 2326 or at cavenderm@starr.org.



Jenna Copenhaver, MA, LLMSW 

Senior Residential Family Specialist, Outside In

Ms. Copenhaver is a Senior Residential Family Specialist for Montcalm's Outside In program that focuses on students diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorders or other social challenges.  Her main responsibilities include developing the treatment direction for each of her students and providing leadership to the treatment team.  Ms. Copenhaver started working at Montcalm Schools in 2005 as the Senior Clinician for the Crossroads Structured Transitional Living program.  While in that position, she helped it flourish from one building to three buildings serving as many as 16 students at one time.  In 2010, Ms. Copenhaver transitioned to the Outside In program where she has been working with younger students.  After completing her Bachelor's degree in Social Work at Western Michigan University, she then attended the University of Michigan's School of Social Work where she received her Master's degree.  Working with children and families has always been a passion for Ms. Copenhaver and she finds each day at Montcalm very rewarding.  Ms. Copenhaver may be reached at 800.837.5591, ext. 2326 or at copenhaverj@starr.org.
